Welcome to Stockholm!

Stockholm - the city on water

Stockholm is a capital like no other. The city is by many lovingly called the "Venice of the North" - or for me simply "home" - for its stunning location on 14 islands connected by over 50 charming bridges. Here, history comes alive as you wander cobblestone streets in the medieval heart of the city, the Old Town.

But Stockholm is more than its past - lush greenery and pristine waters invite you to swim, bike, or kayak right in the city centre! Whether you are an art lover, architecture enthusiast, history buff, or adventure seeker, there is something for everyone. From vibrant shopping streets to serene waterfront strolls, Stockholm offers the perfect mix of culture, nature, and fun!

Join me in exploring the many sides of this extraordinary city, as I share my favorite places, stories, and hidden gems that make Stockholm so special. If you already have particular thoughts and wishes, I will tailor the experience to ensure your visit is everything you have imagined.

About  me

I have had the amazing chance to explore nearly 80 countries and live, study, and work all across Europe. For over 20 years, I worked in international business - collaborating with people from every corner of the globe. While I was always excited about the numbers and the projects, it was the people, the stories, and the laughs along the way that made my work and everyday life meaningful. Connecting with all kinds of personalities and making people feel comfortable has been a cornerstone of my upbringing as I myself had to adjust to many new environments. So now, I am back doing what I have loved since my university days: showing off my hometown of Stockholm to all the amazing guests from around the world to enjoy.

Fluent in English, German, Swedish, and Hungarian, I began guiding during my university days at the iconic Stockholm City Hall - a role I embraced with passion. Today, as a certified Stockholm guide with countless tours behind me, I create personalized experiences for families, group of friends, companies, organizations and travel groups, to mention a few. Beyond the sights of the city, every tour I lead is filled with joy, curiosity, laughter, and those unforgettable “aha” moments.

In my youth, I pursued elite sports on a Youth & Junior National Team level, which sparked my lifelong desire for staying active. Stockholm’s unique cityscape offers the perfect blend of nature and urban life, where with me as your guide, we can - besides the classical and beloved city walks as well as panoramic bus-/car tours - also hike through lush parks, bike the streets and waterfronts of Stockholm, kayak between the islands, or even enjoy horseback riding - all in the heart of the city. Whatever your wishes for a tour, I would love to create an experience tailored just for you!

Welcome to Stockholm!

It is the perfect place to experience Stockholm’s timeless charm with a contemporary twist.

The Royal Palace

The Royal Palace of Stockholm is an iconic symbol of Sweden’s royal heritage and a stunning architectural masterpiece. With over 600 rooms, it is one of the largest palaces in Europe, offering a fascinating glimpse into the country’s royal history through its opulent interiors and extensive collections. The daily Changing of the Guard ceremony (only summer time, in winter twice a week) adds to the lively atmosphere. A visit to the Royal Palace offers a rare opportunity to step into the world of Swedish royalty, with all the elegance and history that comes with it.

The Vasa Ship

The Vasa Ship is one of Stockholm’s most remarkable treasures, offering a unique glimpse into Sweden’s maritime history. This 17th-century warship, famously salvaged from the sea after sinking on its maiden voyage, is now housed in a striking museum on Djurgården island. Standing majestically, the Vasa is a testament to the ambition and craftsmanship of its time, with its intricate carvings and towering masts. Inside the museum, you can explore its storied past through engaging exhibits that bring the ship’s history to life. The Vasa is more than just a ship—it is a captivating piece of Swedish history, preserved in extraordinary detail for visitors to admire and learn from.

The City Hall

Stockholm’s City Hall is a striking example of Swedish architecture and an iconic symbol of the city. Located on the waterfront, this grand building is renowned for its beautiful blend of Romanesque and modernist styles, with its red brick façade and stunning interiors. It is here that the annual Nobel Prize banquet takes place, adding to its prestige and allure. Visitors can explore the Blue Hall, famous for its vast space and the grand ceremony, or the Golden Hall, adorned with over 18 million gold mosaic tiles. Whether you’re admiring the panoramic views from the tower or taking in the rich history, the City Hall is a must-see, offering both architectural beauty and cultural significance.

Skansen

Skansen is a captivating blend of nature, history, and Swedish culture, offering an immersive experience on the island of Djurgården in the heart of Stockholm. As the world’s first open-air museum, Skansen brings Sweden’s past to life through its collection of historical buildings, traditional crafts, and vibrant demonstrations of life during the 19th century. Wander through charming villages, meet farm animals, and explore old-time workshops, all set against a stunning backdrop of lush greenery. The park is also home to Sweden’s native wildlife, where you can see moose, brown bears, and other iconic animals in natural enclosures. It is a beloved destination for adults as well as children of all ages.

Stockholm Archipelago

The Stockholm Archipelago is a breathtaking collection of over 30,000 islands, offering a perfect escape into nature just a short boatride from the city. I have done tours to Fjäderholmarna, which is ideal for a shorter day trip, with cozy restaurants, artisan shops, and stunning scenic views. For a longer adventure over the day, we take a boat ride out to Vaxholm, known as the gateway to the archipelago, where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch while soaking in the maritime charm and picturesque surroundings. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, exploration, or simply a peaceful retreat, the archipelago offers endless opportunities to experience the beauty of Stockholm’s waterways.

Travel tips

Some tips for you when visiting Stockholm

When visiting a new country and city, it's always helpful to be aware of certain local customs, practices, and other good-to-know aspects, so here are a few important things to keep in mind.

Airport service from Arlanda

Arlanda Express offers a fast and convenient train service between Arlanda Airport and Stockholm city center, making travel seamless and efficient; find more details on www.arlandaexpress.se

For a more budget-friendly option, Flygbussarna provides comfortable airport shuttle buses to various locations in Stockholm; learn more on www.flygbussarna.se

Taxi

While it is easy to get around with cabs in Stockholm, be cautious as many are not licensed, and you might risk being overcharged. We have both Uber and Bolt in Stockholm, but if you need to call or wave a taxi, the following are recommended:

  • Taxi Stockholm: www.taxistockholm.se
  • Taxi Kurir: www.taxikurir.se
  • Sverige Taxi (020): www.sverigetaxi.se

Public transportation

Stockholm offers excellent public transport through SL, offering transport by bus, subway, trams and even boat in the inner city. Stockholm is very digitalized so if you are in a hurry, just pop on the next means of transport and blip your credit or debit card to pay for a single fare, valid for 75 minutes. Your ticket will be stored on your card (NOTE: hence if you buy your ticket like this, EACH passanger in the group must blip a seperate card!)

For a smoother experience, it is often better to buy tickets (single tickets, day tickets, longer period tickets) in advance - mostly available at subway stations and kiosks or through the SL app which you can download. For more information please see: https://sl.se/en/in-english

"Card is king"

Paying with cash can be challenging in Sweden, as most places, including kiosks and even public restrooms, only accept cards. It’s a good idea to have your debit or credit card ready for most transactions throughout the city.

However, in places that you can pay with cash, please note that in Sweden, only Swedish Crona is accepted as we are not a member of the Euro currency zone.
